Greg is a fellow member of Perth Cafe Racers and contacted me a little while ago as his new project was nearing completion which was being built by local builders 66 Motorcycles. A former dirtbike rider, Greg wanted images that showed the bike off in it's element; being ridden hard along with some more typical 'glamour' shots.
After some discussion we settled on an abandoned Quarry in the Mount Helena area of Perth and once we had the green light from C.A.L.M (conservation group) we set the ball rolling.
We were joined by the builder; Pete from 66 Motorcycles, Bong Arroyo; a fellow PCR member who owns the beautiful green scrambler and supplied me with a loaner bike for the shoot and also Bruce from GingerBeard Media who was filming the shoot.
We had great weather on the shoot day, partly cloudy to soften the harsh sunlight and so we got stuck into the 'Action' shots first. After a few trial runs we got some great shots of Greg sliding the rear of the bike out in the sand and even found a nice jump for some airtime!
Then we headed off into the quarry for the main static shoot. The area was just breathtaking, with climbers and hikers also enjoying the scenery. There was so much choice in backdrops so we made sure we captured the best of every aspect; from the large boulder clusters, to deep green shaded areas covered with wild mint and moss and finally a nice golden grassy area just as the sun began to drop which produced some stunning images.
All up it was a fantastic afternoon, laughs were had, no bones were broken, and my gear survived my first foray into dirtbike riding while on my back. I'd like to extend a massive thanks to Greg for his time, and dedication to getting the perfect action shots, to Bong for the use of one of his bikes for the afternoon, to Pete for building such a great bike and helping inspire some of the shots and lastly but by no means least, Bruce for filming the whole afternoon.
The pics will be hitting the blogs in the not-too distant future, but for now here are some of my favourites from the day.
